Friedman Fine Arts and Chicago-artists.com are proud to represent Michael Ireland. Ireland is a Chicago artist who uses watercolor in bold, sweeping statements of color vision and presentation. He has had clients across the United States including the Mayo Clinic (Jacksonville, FL), Waukesha Memorial Hospital (Waukesha, WI), Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago (Chicago, IL), and Northwestern Memorial Hospital (Grayslake, IL).

Ireland began his creative journey with his studies at the American Academy of Art in Chicago over forty years ago. Under the direction of master instructor Irving Shapiro, Ireland began to experiment with the effects of light and color through transparent watercolor. His passion for watercolor has endured throughout his entire career and has awarded him the status of being a nationally recognized painter with works in public and private collections across the nation. His approach to challenge the scale and format associated with traditional transparent watercolors that result in large-scale pieces up to twenty feet long has landed him in many hospitals and major corporations across the United States. On top of being an admirable watercolor painter, Ireland is also an accomplished creative director and graphic designer

Ireland draws upon the plains near his home in Cary, Illinois where he resides with his wife and four children. Recently, the grass of the prairie and the prairie itself has become his muse. In his own words, “the prairie is a metaphor for all of us that share this planet. Individual blades of grass bending and shaping as one while the winds rake across the landscape. The prairie gives us shelter, it sows its seeds and delineates our borders. It reaches up to the sun and bows under the heavy snows. It returns year after year on its own terms.”
